Katsuzo Nishi is a Japanese Aikido legend and engineer that is mostly known for the invention of Nishi Health System, a set of exercises which can help us become healthier and stronger. When Nishi was a boy. Due to complications, doctors told his parents that he wouldn’t be able to live for more than 20 years. Concerned about their son’s health, his parents sent him to a Buddhist monastery, where Nishi spent years learning about meditation and various techniques.
Searching for a way to improve his health, Nishi became obsessed with health literature at the monastery. He read hundreds of books on alternative medicine, which, along with aikido, became the base for the Nishi Health System. Nishi published his own book in 1927 and live a long and fruitful life.

A Hard Back
Sleeping on an improper pillow or low-quality mattress on your back can be a big problem. Spinal curvature has been related to numerous health problems which makes keeping your posture straight a must. To maintain your posture and prevent destroying your spine, you should sleep with a roller up towel or something similar under your neck.
Solid Roller Instead Of A Pillow
A roller or rolled-up towel under your neck can prevent neck scoliosis and improve your longevity. We can control the position of our neck and back during the day, but we can’t do anything about it at night. In his book, Katsuzo Nishi recommended sleeping on the back with a roller under the 3rd and 4th neck vertebrae – if it causes discomfort in the beginning, add a few layers of fabric on it.
The Goldfish Exercise
The Goldfish exercise will do wonders for your posture, neck and back. To do it, lay down on the floor with your hands behind your head, then lift the soles up. Start moving the body a bit so ti vibrates for about 2-3 minutes, then relax for a minute and repeat it again.
Improve Your Capillary Circulation
Lie down on your back on the floor with a roller under your neck. Now, raise your legs and arms and bend the elbows and knees, then start shaking them for up to 3 minutes.
Joining The Palms And Soles
Again, lay down on your back on the floor with a roller under your neck. Bend the knees and join your soles, then join your palms on your chest like in a prayer. Now, while in this position, extend the joined palms and soles up and down over your head and until your legs are straight. Repeat the exercise for 10 times with a few second breaks in between and stop if anything hurts.
Spine And Stomach Exercise
Sit on the floor with crossed legs and your shoulders a bit lowered. Now, start moving your shoulders up and down, then lean your torso to the left and right while also turning your head. Raise your chin up a bit when you’re on the side and lower it down to the chest when in the center. Next, raise your arms to the sides, bend the elbows and bring your palms in front of your face. Touch your chest with your chin, spread your hands to the sides, join your shoulder blades, keep your back straight and keep the position for 7-10 seconds.
