The newest research lead by Dr. Paul Kelley, at Oxford University, shows that the most common form of modern-day torture is starting your work day before 10 o’clock in the morning.
We often say our biological clock is ticking and we are not far from the truth our bodies run on biological timers, known as our Circadian Rhythm.
These timers are genetically pre-programmed cycles that regulate our brain activity, energy levels, hormone production and the mental representation of time. By starting work before 10 am we are interfering with our Circadian Rhythm, therefore throwing our health out of balance.
Dr. Kelley says:
“We’ve got a sleep deprived society” and “This is an international issue. Everybody is suffering and they don’t have to.”
He tested his theory, by shifting the school starting an hour from 8.30 am to 10.00 am. After a certain amount of time, he noticed that the attendance levels had improved along with the general productivity of the school and the grades of the students was increased drastically.
This idea will bring many improvements to the society if it’s ever practiced in real life.It will produce rested, productive, useful, focused and all in all happier workers.
The workers that start before 10 am are exposed to serious emotional and physical stresses and the strict and unhealthy work hours result in many possible health risks.
These working patterns are the main reason as to why the average American consume over 3 cups of coffee every single day, trying to keep themselves as alert as they possibly can. The result of not taking into account the natural human body clock is overtired, overworked, coffee intoxicated zombies working in the hours of the day when they should be sleeping.
