If you experience sleeping problems, you should know that Ayurveda can be of great aid. Namely, according to this medicine, there are 3 types of energy or universal principles known as the doshas or vata, pitta, and kapha.
These are the building blocks of the material world and they can be found in anyone and everything, but not in the same proportions. They mix to produce different climates, foods, species, and individuals within same species. The ratio of these three energies within us has a strong impact on the individual, mental, emotional, and physical traits.
This being said, there are 3 types of sleep imbalances that are caused by some of these three doshas. Let’s take a look:
Vata imbalance
This imbalance develops when the coordination between the learning, retention, and recall weakens and the mind starts identifying with the objects of the senses. Hence, if you are trying to fall asleep and you are thinking about what happened earlier that day by reproducing feelings and emotions, the brain cannot detach and go into sleeping phase to rest. One can also have a light and rather restless sleep if they suffer from this imbalance.
Pitta imbalance
These people have no difficulty falling asleep, however, they will wake up later on in the night and will toss and turn to go back to sleep again. This disorder can be a result of an emotional trauma.
Kapha imbalance
Though one sleeps long and very deeply, they still feel tired when they wake up. The lethargic and dull feeling lingers throughout the rest of the day.
How to Treat These Imbalances
First, you should avoid caffeine after 3 pm and drink a glass of warm milk with a quarter tsp of nutmeg before bed. Also, it is highly recommendable to massage your feet with sesame essential oil which has calming properties before sleep. Repeat the massage in the morning.
