Jose Mourinho wants to bring Karim Benzema to Manchester United to partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front, reports say.
The Portuguese coach is a huge fan of the France international, who he coached at Real Madrid.
United are expected to sign Ibrahimovic on a free transfer and Mourinho is keen to play Benzema alongside him, according to the Independent.
While the ex-Chelsea boss is interested in pursuing the option, United board members are aware of the difficulties in getting the deal over the line.
The former Lyon forward is currently negotiating a new contract to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
On top of this, there is the added issue of Benzema facing a potential court case in France over an alleged attempt to extort money from international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena using a sex tape.
Benzema, who currently earns £150,000-a-week, has also consistently rejected the opportunity to move to the Premier League – turning down United for Madrid in 2009 and various approaches from Arsenal.
But Mourinho will still attempt to lure the Frenchman to Old Trafford as he looks to forge one of the most devastating attacks in Europe.
