With Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Manchester United manager now official, let the transfer speculation commence!
Not one to shy away from big-money signings in his career so far, you can expect Mourinho to be busy strengthening this struggling Red Devils side ahead of next season.
Having finished fifth in the Premier League, with the small consolation of an FA Cup win, it’s clear United need to improve in a number of key areas.
Here’s a look at five marquee signings who could be in Mourinho’s sights this summer…
A favourite of Mourinho’s from their time together at Inter Milan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a free agent this summer and is believed to be a top United target.
In fact, the dream may already be close to becoming a reality after the Swede strongly hinted at an imminent move in his press conference yesterday.
He may be 34, but Ibrahimovic would be a superb short-term signing after playing one of the seasons of his life in his final year at Paris Saint-Germain.
One of the best strikers in the world at the moment, Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain would be another terrific buy to help the needs of this goal-shy United team.
The Argentine hit 38 goals in all competitions in 2015/16, including a record-breaking 36 in Serie A, putting him firmly on United’s radar this summer.
Higuain has played under Mourinho before, and it would be no surprise if the Special One looked to work with him again at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 38
Gonzalo Higuain – 36
Anthony Martial – 11
Wayne Rooney – 8
If Mourinho stays loyal to the United tradition of fast, direct, goalscoring wingers, he could do no better than sign Antoine Griezmann this summer.
The Atletico Madrid star has been in sensational form this year, helping fire the club to another Champions League final with goals in both legs of the semi-final victory against Bayern Munich.
Capable of playing out wide or up front, Griezmann could be everything the club hoped Memphis Depay would be, and is another must-have for United as they look to add some spark to an attack that badly struggled in the season just gone.
In one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest blunders, Paul Pogba was allowed to leave United on a free earlier in his career, and he has since flourished at Juventus.
The France international is arguably in the top five midfielders in the world at the moment, and would be a major upgrade on United’s current options in that position, with Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger surely among those who could be axed by the new boss.
Juve may be open to selling Pogba for the right price, and Mourinho would do well to make a move for a player he reportedly also tried to sign when he was at Chelsea.

It’s no secret that Mourinho was desperate to sign John Stones for Chelsea last summer, but Everton just wouldn’t budge.
The England international would also be a great addition at United, who had to make do with Daley Blind as a makeshift centre-back for so much of the season.
It is claimed that Stones may now be available for a more reasonable fee, so could Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford now make United the favourites to snap him up?
