According to statistics, more than 100 million Americans are suffering from chronic pain. The most common types of pain are lower back and neck pain, with knee and joint pain trailing behind. Dealing with these types of pain can be challenging, but it’s not impossible to break free from them.
Valentin Dikul is a circus gymnast and head of a rehabilitation center who invented a great set of exercises aimed at reducing almost any type of pain. His workout program has become pretty popular nowadays and we’re going to show you why and how it is effective.
Who Is Valentin Dikul?
Dikul is a circus gymnast who had a rough childhood and decided to try his luck in a circus. He was doing great for years, until one day in 1962, when Dikul fell to the ground from 40 ft. up after one of the supporting beams broke. The prognosis was grave – doctors said that Valentin would never walk again. However, the man decided not to give in. He started doing upper and lower body exercises and after a while, his paralyzed limbs worked normally again!
Dikul started by tying a role on his limbs and pulling them up with the use of weights. Dikul invented the machine all by himself – after a few years, he returned to his full strength, even winning tournaments as the strongest man on Earth! His incredible juggling ability has got him in the Guinness Book of Records, but his greatest achievement remained to be his medical rehabilitation methodology.
How Can The Dikul Workout Boost Your Overall Health?
Not counting serious injuries, osteochondrosis, scoliosis and disc prolapse are the most common problems for adults and children nowadays. To improve your overall health with the Dikul set of exercise, you have to pick a set of exercises and do them every day. To make things easier, we’ve picked as set which will relieve your back pain and help you walk normally again.
Put a mat on the floor and lay down on it, spreading your arms to the sides. Now, put your left hip over the right thigh without lifting your head. Keep the position for a couple of seconds, then go back and repeat on the other side.
Lie down on your back just like in the previous exercise, but this time cross your arms on your chest. Now, bring your left shoulder to the right without lifting your butt – keep the position for a few seconds, then go back and repeat the exercise on the other side.
Lie down on your back on the yoga mat and spread your arms to the sides (just like in the first exercise). Now, spread your arms with the palms down, then move your legs to the right without separating them and keeping your shoulders and head on the floor. Repeat the exercise on the other side.
Lay down on your back on the mat and cross your arms on the chest, then slowly tilt your upper body to the left. Hold for 2-3 seconds, then go back to the original position and repeat on the other side.
Stand upright on the floor and look forwards. Now, bend the knees and then your back forward, while keeping your hands parallel to the floor. Hold for 3-4 seconds, then go back to the original position and repeat.
How The Dikul Exercises Improves Our Mental Health
Besides the obvious physical benefits, the Dikul set of exercises can also improve your mental health. If you want to get results, you need to keep a positive mindset. Everything starts from there, so make sure to exercise in a calm environment which will provide enough peace in order for you to focus. When you’re done with the exercises, finish with an affirmation.
Follow Dikul’s principles
If you want to be successful as Valentin Dikul, you must be perseverant, emotionally stable and have faith that you’ll succeed. The exercises are meant to strengthen your muscles, but not to the point of pain. If you feel discomfort while doing the set, you need to take a break. The routine must be the same from the first session – if you experience problems such as shortness of breath, you need to stop.
Just listen to your body – if you’re in pain, you should stop with the exercises immediately and try another solution. If you set your mind straight and stick to the set of exercises, however, you can achieve great things just like Dikul.
