- 5 tablespoons of water kefir grains
- 7 cups fresh of coconut water
- 1 Ceylon cinnamon stick
Method of preparation:
Pour the coconut water into a 1/2 gallon jar, add the water kefir grains, and cover the jar loosely. Leave it for 48 hours, but no longer than that, as longer fermentation can cause an explosion.
When it is fermented, it gets a lighter color and when the culturing process ends, the kefir grains will rise up to the top. Then, you need to remove the grains, and they can be re-used again if you immediately want to make another batch.
Cinnamon Coconut Water Kefir Health Benefits
Coconut water is packed with minerals that are essential and serve as electrolytes in the body. These minerals include sodium, magnesium, calcium, chlorides, and potassium. Furthermore, due to the process of fermentation, the beneficial bacteria and yeast transform the sugar from coconut water and release metabolites that are very beneficial for health and the human body.
Here’s how coconut water kefir can help improve immune function, heal the gut, and prevent cancer:
1. Improve the Immune System
Lactobacillus kefiri, is a type of probiotic bacteria which fights against harmful bacteria, including salmonella and Escherichia coli. Kefiran is another compound of kefir which is an insoluble polysaccharide. This compound is antimicrobial and acts against Candida symptoms and speeds up the healing process of external wounds. Therefore, kefir is helpful in modulating the immune system and impeding the growth of harmful bacteria.
Moreover, cinnamon abounds in antioxidant, called polyphenols and proanthocyanidins, and is also rich in manganese, calcium, fiber, and iron, which are very beneficial for improving the immune system.
2. Improves Digestion
The gut flora, or the gut microbiome, consists of a great variety of microorganisms that live in the digestive tract. Namely, the food you consume directly affects the gut flora. You can enhance the health of your gut flora by regular consumption of coconut water kefir, which directly leads to improved function and health of the digestive tract. The probiotics found in this drink are very beneficial for relieving constipation, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal issues.
3. Prevent Cancer
The healthy bacteria found in kefir are great anti-carcinogenic agents. Indeed, kefir can impede the growth of early tumors and their enzymatic transformations from non-carcinogenic to carcinogenic.
Similarly, coconut water contains very potent antiviral properties which fight against viruses and cancer cells. The hydration and electrolytes provided by coconut water kefir can also reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, including diarrhea, dehydration, and lack of nutrients.
Furthermore, cinnamon abounds in antioxidant properties which protect the DNA from damage, cell mutation, and cancer cell growth. Its ingredient, called cinnamaldehyde is mainly responsible for this ability. Cinnamon is especially useful for preventing colon cancer.
